Spatial Dock EX privacy policy

Spatial Dock EX keeps your data on your Mac. It goes online for two things only: checking for updates and activating a Supporter license.

In short

No ads, no tracking

Spatial Dock EX does not track how you use the app or build a profile of how you work. There are no ads or third-party analytics SDKs, no account is required, and your data is never sold.

Local by default

Your docks, settings, icons, window titles, and project names are read and stored on your Mac.

Two network uses

Update checks, and Supporter licenses (activation, a license check at launch and once a day, and redeeming a Mac App Store purchase). Nothing else leaves your Mac unless you send it to us yourself.

When Spatial Dock EX uses the network

1. Update checks

Because Spatial Dock EX is distributed outside the Mac App Store, it checks our update feed to see whether a newer version is available. A check retrieves the list of released versions; it does not send your settings, your app list, or any document content.

  • You choose whether checks run automatically or only when you ask
  • You choose whether updates download automatically
  • You choose whether to follow the beta channel

Each update check carries only the installed Spatial Dock EX version, in the request's user-agent header (for example SpatialDockEX/1.6.0). Nothing else is added to the request. Sparkle's optional system profile is disabled.

Our website and update feed are hosted by Cloudflare, which receives the connection's IP address to deliver the response and processes it for a limited period, as it does for any website. We do not store IP addresses.

2. Supporter license activation

If you activate a Supporter license, the license key and the name you give this Mac (for example "Work Mac") are sent to our licensing service, run by Polar, so the key can be validated and bound to this Mac. Spatial Dock EX then checks the license again at launch and once a day, sending the key and the activation's identifier. Your Mac's hardware identifier never leaves your Mac.

Redeeming a Mac App Store purchase. If you bought Spatial Dock on the Mac App Store, you can redeem that purchase for a Supporter license. Spatial Dock EX then sends us an encrypted token identifying that purchase. We use it to ask Apple to confirm the purchase, and to create your personal checkout link at Polar.

We do not store the purchase identifier. We keep a one-way fingerprint of it with your checkout link, so that redeeming again gives you the same link instead of a second one. That record contains no name, email address, IP address, or device identifier, and we keep it for as long as we offer redeeming.

The free edition never contacts the licensing service, and the 14-day Supporter trial requires no account and no payment card.

Purchases are processed by Polar, which acts as the merchant of record for Spatial Dock EX. Polar is the seller on your receipt: it collects and handles your payment details directly, holds the billing information needed to issue that receipt, and is responsible for sales tax and VAT. We never receive or store your card details.

3. Problem reports you send us

Settings → Troubleshooting can build a problem report: a diagnostic text (app version, macOS version, Mac model, language and region, recent log lines, and your description) and two files with your settings and your docked apps. Nothing is sent automatically: you see a preview, then email the files to us from your own mail app, or save them. Your home folder's name is replaced by ~ in every path.

Permissions

Accessibility

macOS Accessibility access is needed for three optional features: Command+Tab override, Window Switcher and Project Groups.

The Command+Tab override is off by default and available in EX Free and Supporter. When enabled and permission is granted, it processes keyboard events locally to recognize and handle the switching shortcut. It does not record or transmit the text you type. Disabling the override stops its keyboard interception.

macOS Secure Input prevents the override from capturing Command+Tab, such as during password entry. Spatial Dock EX does not bypass this protection.

Window Switcher uses the permission to read window titles and to focus, close, minimize, or full-screen windows on your instruction. Project Groups uses it to read window titles, to match each window to a project.

Window titles, and the project names matched from them, are read in memory on your Mac while the app is running. They are never transmitted, written to a log, or included in an update check.

Files, folders, and login

  • File and folder access happens only when you pick an app, create an App Link, or choose a background or icon image
  • Launch at login is optional and off until you enable it

Who handles your data

Why we use it

  • Update checks: to deliver the updates you turned on.
  • License activation, the daily license check, and redeeming a Mac App Store purchase: to provide the Supporter license you bought or claimed (contract).
  • Records of redeemed App Store purchases: to issue only one license per purchase (legitimate interest).
  • Problem reports and messages: to answer you.

Who handles it for us

  • Cloudflare hosts this website, the update feed, and the service that checks redeemed App Store purchases.
  • Polar runs license activation, the daily license check, and checkout, where it is the merchant of record.
  • Apple confirms a Mac App Store purchase when you redeem it.
  • Tally runs the contact form on the website.

How long it is kept

  • IP addresses: never stored by us.
  • Records of redeemed App Store purchases: for as long as we offer redeeming.
  • Problem reports and messages: deleted after 24 months.
  • License data held by Polar: under Polar's own policy.

Cookies

This website sets no cookies of its own.

Your data, your control

Removing everything. Spatial Dock EX can reset its settings, remove all docked apps, or wipe all app data from within Settings. Moving the application to the Trash removes the app itself.

Taking it with you. Settings and the docked app collection can be exported and imported as files at any time, including to and from the Mac App Store edition.

Questions or requests. Write to us through the contact form and we will answer. You can ask to see, correct, or delete your data, to limit or object to its use, or to receive a copy.

Changes to this policy. If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new date below.
